Levels of assessment (Grading) according to the Legislation of Schooling Obligations (excerpt)

§ 14. (1) A student’s performance is evaluated by using the following levels of assessment (grades):

     Excellent (1),

     Good (2),

     Satisfactory (3),

     Sufficient (4),

     Insufficient (5).

(2) Students‘ performances should be assessed as “excellent” if they meet the requirements as laid out in the teaching plan in a way that goes far beyond the normal level regarding the students’ understanding and application of subject matter and their completion of given tasks, and – where possible – if students have demonstrated significant independence or the ability to independently apply their knowledge and skills in the completion of tasks that where new to them.

 (3) Students‘ performances should be assessed as “good” if they meet the requirements as laid out in the teaching plan in a way that goes beyond the normal level regarding the students’ understanding and application of subject matter and their completion of given tasks, and – where possible – if students have demonstrated noticeable signs of independence or the ability to apply their knowledge and skills in the completion of tasks that where new to them when given the necessary direction.

 (4) Students‘ performances should be assessed as “satisfactory” if they entirely meet the requirements as laid out in the teaching plan in the key areas regarding the students’ understanding and application of subject matter and their completion of given tasks. Shortcomings in the application are compensated by noticeable signs of independence in completing the given tasks.

 (5) Students‘ performances should be assessed as “sufficient” if they largely meet the requirements as laid out in the teaching plan in the key areas regarding the students’ understanding and application of subject matter and their completion of given tasks.

 (6) Students‘ performances should be assessed as “insufficient” if they do not even meet the necessary requirements to be assessed as “sufficient” (para 5).
