MCA Bilingual Approach

Another competitive advantage of MCA® is the focus on the English language. Students are taught to read in German while, at the same time, English is used side-by-side as an on-going working language.

MCA® chooses English because is the second most used language in the world. It is also the most popular language due to spread and is the international language of business.

The teachers use internationally approved methods and learning materials. English is also taught as a separate subject.  Teachers may use English to amplify, emphasize and reiterate lessons already taught in German. Teachers may also communicate in English when socializing during projects, excursions, etc.

MCA® is a multicultural setting and is aware that knowing a language without the knowledge of the cultural behaviour of the group can be damaging. Here we learn much of each other.

Children with either German or English as their mother tongue will be admitted into MCA®. However, potential students must meet certified requirements for both languages at registration.

In grades 1 and 2 the students start writing and reading in German. In grades 3 and 4 they will continue with German but begin to read and write in English as well.

MCA’s goal is that the student’s ability to communicate in English at the end of the year is above average as compared to students from other bilingual schools.

The fundamental principle of the concept is that cultures and languages meet and mingle in a controlled way or peer learning.

During certain classes, as well as pauses, they meet, socialize and get to know each other and their differences, which lowers the level of Xenophobia.

This enables these children to master a skill of “Code switching” and develops a linguistic creativity.
